No joy for the prems

Following First Division’s success in their exciting penalty shootout, the Byron Bay Prems took on Workers in their first Semi Final on Saturday afternoon. The Ram’s attack started well with Seb Bell having an early shot on goal. An unfortunate and untimely injury to Todd Knaus saw him taken from the field to to hospital with a badly broken nose and facial injuries. Byron's midfield and defence worked hard and kept Workers at Bay for 95% of the first half. Wayne Mortimer managed to squeeze one chance one chance from the Rams defence and made it one goal for Workers against the run of play. At halftime, Byron Bay had had all the attack but nothing showing to show for it.

The second half opened with Byron again playing good attacking football and two strong appeals for penalties were overruled. Seb Bell cleverly beat the keeper only toto have a desperate Workers defender clear the ball of the line. A Workers corner found its man and the shot saw them take a 2-0 lead. Despite the efforts of Sam Owen, Jonathan Pierce, Seb Bell and Herick Schuenemann, the Rams could not find the net. Nick Baker, the Packhams and Lucas worked hard in defence.

BB will now play Rovers in the sudden death preliminary final while Workers will need to beat Thistles next week to make the Grand Final. With team members injured and away a few players will have to step up for Byron next week for us to get through.
