A great game of football at the Byron Rec grounds last Saturday resulted in the Byron Bay 2nd division being crowned minor premiers.

Coming into the last game of the season 3 teams were vying for the top spot of the FFNC 2nd division and a draw between 1st place Lismore Workers and 3rd place Uki Pythons was a perfect buildup to a Byron Bay vs Bangalow clash where Byron had to win to claim the top prize.

Byron dominated for the first 10 minutes culminating in a great goal by this seasons top scorer William Ennis. The rest of the first half saw Bangalow push but with little result. Byron regained their composure in the second half and dominated securing the premiership with another 3 goals making the final score Byron Bay 4 Bangalow 0.

At first glimpse this seems like just another adult sports team, but there are a few factors which make them unique. This team is an interesting mix of 10 different nationalities, with players coming from Australia, England, Holland, Ireland, Israel, New Zealand, Philippines, Scotland, Singapore and the U.S.A. Also, the average age of the team is 34 years old, with pairs of 26 year olds and 45 year olds to book-end the group.

Stand-out Will Ennis finished the season with a scorching 18 goals in 18 games and the league scoring title. The Seconds will have a week off before they start their play-off campaign Saturday week in Byron Bay.

Congratulations to Jim Blower (coach) and the boys!
