a big year for the rams

This year’s football season looks like being a big one for the Byron Bay Rams.

Byron’s new Premier squad coach, Damon Bell, who steps into the very large boots of Byron legend Peter Ware, is confident of a strong showing in 2013.

Wet weather and injuries took their toll on the Byron squad in 2012 and, after narrow defeat in the Anzac Cup final, the Rams battled on to a fourth place in the general competition and went down fighting to Goonellabah in the semis.

Damon Bell is a veteran of FFNC representative coaching, a former Bangalow Prems and Palm Beach FC coach. He holds a B License as well as a European Coaching License.

Building on an already formidable Byron Squad with some new faces (and the return of a few Byron prodigals), Bell believes the Rams will be a major contender for Anzac Cup honours and are good for at least a top four finish in the general competition.

Rams stalwart and 20-year (from under 6s!) Byron veteran, Tom Ruhl, joins the coaching staff as Assistant Coach while fitness guru Jeremy Sutton will provide strength and conditioning, and minister to the Rams’ aches and pains.

The whole Byron club is looking to a stellar year, with a new President, Richard Ray, some fresh committee faces for 2013 and some exciting development initiatives.

Pre-season training and selection for the Premier Squad begins at 6.30pm on Tuesday, January 29 at the Byron Rec Grounds and will continue each Tuesday and Thursday leading into the Anzac Cup in March.

General mens’ and womens’ training and sign-on will begin on Wednesday, January 30, at 6.30.
