Byron Bay FC have qualified for another Grand Final this season with the Men’s Premier Reserves earning a week off after an emotional penalty shootout victory over Pointscore Champions South Lismore.
In a hard-fought match, Zac Miletic put the Rams in front early in the second half before South Lismore were awarded a late penalty in the dying minutes of the match to send the game into extra time at 1-1.
With no-one able to finish the game off, the match went to a penalty shoot-out with Marcus Gibbs the hero as goalkeeper before Alex Kempnich scored his penalty and sent the Rams into yet another Premier Reserves Grand Final.
Incredibly, this is Byron Bay’s sixth Premier Reserves Grand Final in the past seven years with the club winning three of those in consecutive years (2015-2017).
With 2019 being the final year of Reserve Grade existing in the Football Far North Coast competition, the Rams would love to farewell the competition on a high.
The Grand Final is set to be played on Saturday 21 September at Crozier Field in Lismore. Kick-off will be at 3pm. Byron Bay will face the winner of this weekend’s preliminary final between South Lismore and Richmond Rovers.
