LET’S WIND BACK THE CLOCK

Byron Bay FC started with humble beginnings in 1963 with junior teams ranging from U7s to U14s in the Brunswick-Byron competition.

The senior side started three years later in 1966, playing in the Tweed-Byron competition, winning their first competition in 1978 and reaching three consecutive Grand Finals. They also won three consecutive ANZAC Cups from 1978 to 1980.

The club’s first taste of Lismore senior football was in the Tristram Cup with Byron missing out on a finals berth after a draw against Eastwood United. Byron eventually joined Lismore District Soccer Football Association in 1982 in second division.

Byron’s senior side had many ups and downs in its first years in the Lismore competition, finally winning the Pointscore Championship in the 1988 Reserve Grade competition under the guidance of coach Mark Stewart. That victory allowed the club to be promoted to the First Division.
