Thistles and Hornets on top

[singlepic id=281 w=250 float=right]Lismore Thistles and Goonellabah have emerged as the front runners in the Tursa Employment and Training Anzac Cup after two rounds. Both sides are undefeated and are almost assured of a semi-final berth. The third and final round this weekend will determine the final four teams and Pottsville Beach is the only side having no chance of getting to the next stage. Friday night games have proved popular and more excitement under lights this week will see Pottsville Beach try to upset Goonellabah in their clash at 8pm. The Hornets put the sword to Byron Bay last week and look to have way too much strike power for their northern counterparts. Coach Mark Ambler never takes any team lightly and he will no doubt remind players that mediocre performances are not acceptable against any premier division side, regardless of perceived strength. The third match kicking off at 4.30pm Sunday is the Ballina versus Byron Bay match. Ballina came back from a one nil deficit to defeat Alstonville last week and they will catch Bay who must be still smarting over their loss to Goonellabah. Jordy Cambell will be watching from the sideline after being sent off last week and this game promises to be a blockbuster with both teams having something to prove.
