NCF sides crush Solo Cup rivals

[singlepic id=282 width=250 float=right]THE Clarence Valley’s Maclean Bobcats and Westlawn Tigers were both impressive winners in the opening round of the $10,000 Solo Cup in Coffs Harbour at the weekend. On what was a good day for North Coast Football (NCF) sides, Byron Bay and Lismore also notched wins. But it was Maclean’s 5-1 dismantling of Tuncurry Forster that would have been particularly pleasing.

The Tigers then held on for a 1-0 triumph against the Kempsey Saints and Coffs United showed they will be a side to be reckoned with in 2011 with a 9-1 drubbing of Port United.

Out of the seven NCF teams that entered the competition, five had victories over rivals from outside the North Coast zone.

Each winning team will progress to the second round which will be played on Saturday, May 7 at a venue yet to be announced. A total of 56 Northern NSW teams entered the Solo Cup.
