Saturday, June 22nd saw plenty fireworks in Lismore. The Byron Bay Rams travelled to Lismore to take on Italo Stars in both Premier and Premier Reserves. The Rams Reserves took control of their encounter from the kickoff, with the midfield of Yantra Whitling and Mark Greenslade ensuring quality balls went out to the flankers and both Tommy Cranmer and Tane Meek providing the front runners with plenty of chances.
As the half went on, many chances went begging and Italo Stars scored a somewhat bizarre goal from a throw in to go one up.
The second half saw much of the same with the Rams dominating and the defence marshalled by James Tomlinson and Nathan Burvill in control. It didn't take long before the Rams dominance turned into goals. First Nolan Pierce rose above the Stars defence to head in a corner and then Herick Schuenemann scored a beautiful goal by chipping the goalkeeper.
The 2-1 result keeps the Byron Bay Reserves among the front runners in this year's competition table.
The Premiers eased any lingering frustration from last week's draw with Workers by demolishing the Stars side eleven goals to nil.
The Rams played their usual free flowing style of football with every player fully engaged in the game and wanting to contribute.
After five minutes the Stars defence was split and a dot-shot was given away. Sam Owens put the goal away the penalty and then followed it up with fine header. Two nil but more where that came from come when Sebastian Bell and the Bruce Morhaus scored to take it to four goals to nil at half time. Despite enthusiastic urging form the Italo fans, the second half provided more fireworks and the Rams netted another seven unanswered goals. Bruce Morhaus scored his second for the day while Sebastian took his tally to five! Layton Barton and George Martin added one apiece to take the final score to 11-0. This was a commanding win for the Rams and should take them very close to the top of the competition table. It was an outstanding team effort, with lots of goals for and nil against.
This week the Rams play Lennox at the Byron Rec Ground on Sunday at 12.30 and 2.30pm.
