Byron Bay Rams confirmed their spot in the FFNC Second Division Grand Final with a hard fought win in the local derby against Mullumbimby last Friday.
Byron Bay pressed from the whistle with 2 shots saved off the line in the first 10 minutes and their persistence paid off after 20 minutes when Peter link connected with a cross and volleyed into the back of the net. Mullum reacted to the goal and applied some of their own pressure but Byron stood firm and a brilliant counter was coolly finished by Dylan McKeown-Shepperson, 2-0 half time.
Mullum started the second half with a renewed energy and managed to thread the ball to an open forward who side footed into the corner of the net. The crowd were rapturous by this stage as the last 20 mins would be filled with tension. Byron Bay scrambled well to clear 2 balls off the line while Mullum were unlucky to hit the woodwork in a space of 10 minutes.
On the other side of the field, an opportunistic Fez managed to steal the ball off of a defender, take the keeper wide and calmly put the game to bed by finishing the narrow angle. Byron won the local derby 3-1 and will play against Lismore Workers in the Grand Final on Saturday 22 September at 12:15pm at Oakes Oval (Lismore).
A big congratulations to the boys and Coach Jim Blower and good luck in the final.
