Rain interferes with Cup

[singlepic id=281 w=250 float=right]Just when we thought we were going to cruise through the three preliminary rounds of the Tursa Employment and Training Anzac Cup, down came the rain. We did get most games played and Alstonville and Goonellabah are confirmed as the winners of their respective pools in men’s premier division. They will meet each other in one semi final, however due to the participation of Goonellabah, Byron Bay and Lismore Workers in the first round of the State Cup this Saturday, the men’s premier semi finals will be deferred until Tuesday, April 12. With Byron Bay going through Ballina like the proverbial “dose of salts”, they turned a negative goal difference into a positive three and reminded all football followers that they will be a force to reckon with. Up at Pottsville Beach, reigning Anzac Cup holder Goonellabah blasted six goals past the hapless Panthers, who look like being in for a long season. By the time this goes to print, we have hopefully played the Lismore Thistles and Lismore Workers match plus the postponed Casino versus Rovers game. Thistles are expected to progress having won their first two games.
