The celebrations are continuing in Byron Bay after the local team took out the Football Far North Coast premier division grand final. The Rams downed arch rivals Thistles 2-1 in the decider at Oakes Oval.
A pair of first-half goals to Sam Owens gave the visitors the early momentum, and a late penalty wasn't enough to give the minor premiers the victory they craved.
Rams' coach, Damon Bell, says it's a major achievement to wrest the title from the powerful Lismore clubs.
"Ah, they're over the moon," he said.
"They're nearly all local boys... everyone lives in Byron or around Byron or went to Byron High.
"So it's a big achievement for the local boys and to wrestle it away from Lismore.
"It's only left Lismore four times since 1949, so it's quite a big achievement."
The clubs also clashed in the premier-reserves decider, with Thistles taking the honours 3-1.
