Byron Bay's SAE-Quantm Summer Youth League once again showed it's superiority in a fast paced derby against a strong Bangalow side on Friday night. The Byron attack began with the first whistle and first blood went to fireball Tai Bui who picked up a cross from Sequoya Rawson Smith 15 minutes in to take Byron to a 1-0 lead. Bangalow responded with vigour and, with more than its share of experience and talent, managed to hold back the young Rams for the rest of the first half.
Some impossible saves from towering Workers Keeper, Simon Cleaver (on loan for the SYL), foiled some equally amazing shots from Sequoya Rawson Smith, Tane Meek, Sam Robson and Nolan Pierce. Simmo almost managed a goal of his own with a soaring clearance.
A second half goal from Rawson Smith spurred the Rams on, and the goals began to flow. Tai Bui took his second for the night, another fell to Nolan Pierce and an own goal (or Robbo's) saw the final tally at 5-0. But for Simmo, the tally could easily have doubled.
With 2 games to go, Byron needs big scoring victories over top 3 rivals Thistles and middle rankers Casino if it is to overtake Rovers goal difference lead. Both games are home games, with Thistles this coming Friday and the final round against Casino the following week, December 6.
Be there at 6.30 for some fast and entertaining football.
